Building Division

The Ellensburg Community Development Building Division provides a inspections and plan review program for all building related needs: electrical, mechanical, plumbing and structural, processes permits, and enforcement complaints, and supports historical preservation of our city.

Land Use

The Ellensburg Community Development Planning Department is responsible for the implementation and updating of the Comprehensive Plan, developing new planning programs, and the administration of the Land Development Code, a significant component of the Ellensburg City Code.

Historic Preservation Funding

Existing structures within the Historic District or listed individually on the National or Local Landmark Register may be eligible for any of the following programs:

  • Local Special Valuation: Rehabilitation of a structure in the downtown historic district may be eligible to recoup expenses by freezing the assessed value of a property for up to ten years.
  • In 2015, the City Council established annual Historic Preservation Grants of up to $10,000. More information on this program is available
  • Many properties in the Historic Downtown are eligible for National Historic Tax Credits, which allows a 20% income tax credit for rehabilitation
